Sonkeigo of kiru 2020/6/16 16:17
Hi everyone

i learned today that 着る (to wear), becomes お召になる in sonkeigo. i just would like to know if it also applies to other "wearing" verbs like 履く and かぶる etc. What about wearing things like glasses and jewellery?

Also, with 食べる becoming 召し上がる、does it also apply to 飲む?

thanks for any help

お召しになる I would use with clothing (dresses, suits, kimono, blouses, etc.), hats, shoes. I don’t recall ever using this verb with eyeglasses and jewelry, but maybe it’s just me. (I haven’t been in enough of these formal occasions maybe.) Anything that a person adorns her/himself with, by “putting on,” I believe it can be used with.

召し上がる applies to both eating and drinking.
