Will there be Hanabi festivals this summer? 2020/7/10 09:41
I know that with the last few months of things being closed and events cancelled, I heard that it could also effect the Hanabi festivals during the summer. Does anyone know if this means that all of the festivals would be cancelled, or just some?

If you read here, at least those main ones in summer are cancelled for 2020:

https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2267.html

This is a listing in Japanese only, but of all the fireworks festivals, large and small, across Japan, only 10 or so are confirmed to go as scheduled (or later from the original date).

versus, those pages list others that have been cancelled for 2020:

If you are looking at a specific region, there is a breakdown by region too.

The big ones in Tokyo have all been cancelled and I've seen many cancellation notices for those outside the capital.

I'd think that events after August would probably go ahead as normal.
Under the government's plan, as of today the limit for events had been increased to 5000, and by August, all restrictions for events will be removed.
Furthermore, go to campaign will be started on July 22nd, so the we will likely see event organizers to not cancel events to be in line with government policies.
