Map for Kiiji Route (Osaka to Yamanakadani) 2020/8/19 19:52
Dear sir or madam,

I´m going to hike the Kumano Kodo Kiiji route and want to start in central Osaka or Kyoto but I cannot find an English or a Japanese map for the part from Osaka to Yamanakadani station. The rest of the road to Kii Tanabe is covert by two brochures of Wakayama Prefecture. Do you know a website or agency which provides a map for the part from Osaka to Yamanakadani station?
Thank you for your help.

Sincerely
Alexander Gaitzsch

@Roh, I understood the OPs request that she/he wants to WALK from Osaka. Not sure if that’s true. Maybe that was only my interpretation.

To OP, I don’t know the answer either. I have been doing a bit of cycling in that area, and it is essentially all build up. I get it that you want to walk all the route, but it adds another 50 km minimum to your hike. So plus 2-3 days. Walking through more or less an endless city. Doable, sure. Enjoyable, well I guess your interpretation of what is enjoyable to you.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I meant to walk the whole route from Yodo River to Kii Tanabe as it was in ancient times.

I searched around a bit.

That part of the Kumano Kodō is called Kumano kaido 熊野街道

Here under 1 a general description and way markers:
https://kumanolog.com/2018/08/20/about-kumanokodo/

Here a pamphlet of Osaka tourism office:
http://www.pref.osaka.lg.jp/attach/1464/00002290/K01-16.pdf

It’s all in Japanese, but as you said you couldn’t find anything in English not Japanese I guess you have someone (or yourself) who can read japanese. Anyway, the maps are relatively self explanatory.

And if I read it correctly on this page http://www.pref.osaka.lg.jp/doroseibi/kakusyusesaku/rekishikaidou.html... under
熊野街道(大阪からはじまる熊野詣の旅)
Are the maps of each section. Eg: the last section

http://www.pref.osaka.lg.jp/attach/1464/00002290/K14-15(1312).pdf

Have a look of this is what you were searching for.

Thank you very much LikeBike.
The maps provided by Osaka Prefecture (http://www.pref.osaka.lg.jp/doroseibi/kakusyusesaku/rekishikaidou.html) No. 1 (Osaka - Yamanakadani Station) and the first part of No. 6 (Osaka to Kyoto) were exactly what I was searching for.
It is a shame that the Japanese cannot provide it in English but OK. I walked the whole Iseji with a Japanese map, so it will work, too.
