Cities on Japan Guide: #140 of 205 2020/8/30 21:38
Hello everyone,
today is a typical Sunday and I was bored, so I wanted to list every single city that Japan has to offer. In the ranking you can see 205 different sites. Tokyo in place 1, Kyoto place 2, etc. However, I can't find an entry for place 140. Could someone help me?

My Japanese friend will give you better info on 140
However if you visit Japan, then you see Tokyo:head of the Japanese Body. Here the system of administrative guidance was to transform Japan into an organic entity with Tokyo its only brain.Creative cultural activities also happen only in tokyo.Japan has cities without walls .In China, you see great wall ,1800 miles long is now useless:the longest structure ever built by human beings.the Japanese market today remains a difficult one for foreign businessman. But it is no longer a closed market.prospective foreign business considered success is entirely possible.

Japan has a lot more cities than the 205 listed on this site so I wouldn't worry about the one that's missing too much.

Maybe there are two places sharing the 139th place.

I think I found the problem. There are 204 locations on the list. Call it being in lockdown with little to do!

Tomonoura is given a listing under Hiroshima Prefecture but is actually part of Fukuyama, which also now has a listing. Could that be it?

Each page has it's rating. Tonomura has a rating for Fukuyama - thus not on this occasion.

There is no place 140.

Do not ask about place 140.

These will change as the number of users claiming to have been to each destination changes, but I found #140.

Currently, #140 is Onuma Park in Hokkaido (near Hakodate):
https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e5356.html

But at the moment, there are no destinations for #124 and #169

Three sub-destinations are given full destination listings in the regional article: Ouchijiku (part of Aizu-Wakamatsu), Tomonoura (part of Fukuyama), and Kushiro Shitsugen National Park (part of Kushiro).

Oze National Park is double-listed under both Gunma (in Kanto) and Fukushima (in Tohoku).

#124 is Kurobe Gorge: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e7575.html

#169 is Tomamu (ski resort in Hokkaido).

I guess that #140 is just missing from the full list here:

Why is Niigata missing on that list? IMHO pretty nice out-of-the box city. Has aquarium and good seafood.
If you have a railpass, then pretty cheap to visit.

Although JR Niigata trainstation was at 2018 one of the worst-looking stations (when you compare the similar ones in Japan). Maybe it was due the renovation process, but it looked somewhat dated and old.

Niigata, If you have a rail pass, then pretty cheap to visit.
In addition: The world's fastest art gallery, GENBI SHINKANSEN, is also free with JR PASS:

I love Japan Guide, but it's listing of what makes the 205 seems very.... arbitrary in places.

Take #187 https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6071.html

It seems sort of like it is just there because someone on Japan Guide is friends with the owner or they really want to encourage travel to this specific town for one reason or another?

Nearby Ueda, Matsushiro, and Kawanakajima Battlefield don't even rate entries under either Nagano or Bessho onsen.

For Marugame #141, they have a lot of listing for islands you can visit nearby but leave you the really fascinating fan museum where you can create a fan and learn how traditional paddle fans are made. It was small and delightful and is right there, in Marugame itself, a short walk from the station.

Akame 48 Falls doesn't get a mention, and really should because it's an easy trip from Iga Ueno or Osaka/Kyoto.

I'm not even going to get into all the wonderful places @Mfedley writes about that never appear on Japan Guide. And I get you can't have everywhere, but I am unsure what qualifies you to get on that list of 205.

Ratings are just a combination of visitor votes. That is why Kanto and Kansai regional places rate so high. Doesnt mean they are the best. Just more people have visited and chosen to vote.
