Winter Suitability for Specific Locations 2021/1/2 17:47
Hi All,

At the moment, I am putting together two itineraries of roughly two weeks each for traveling around Japan to places I have not visited yet. This is all covid dependent so no comments needed on that. My two trips are basically being segregated to winter and non-winter due to my hate of driving in snow.

There are basically two locations that I wanted to know a bit more about around christmas. One location is Gujo Hachiman and the other is Iwaki.

Could I expect snow in Gujo Hachiman around December 20 - Jan 10 or is it just a possibility. I'd travel by public transport but if there is a strong chance of mushy snow in all locations then I'll give it a think.

I'm also interested in the possibility of snow around Iwaki in Fukushima and it's surrounds. This is a location I might drive for a day or so in winter during the same above mentioned time. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

It has been snowing in both for the past week.

Iwaki being near ocean is much less likely to see colder temps and huge snow falls.

Gujo Hachiman is in the mountains. I'd expect a chance of snow from xmas onwards.

Thanks for the update.

From the info I got - I'm expecting snow (not too slushy) at Gujo Hacjiman in winter which means I will not drive here.

For Iwaki - I see it as a possibility so I might hire a car for a day which can be easily cancelled the day before if I see that conditions are not to my liking.....

Gujo Hachiman is not far enough north or in the mountains to guarantee snow in December. It's definitely a possibility. In a typical year, I'd say there's a higher chance of there not being snow.

Right now, the snow in Gujo appears to be in patches. Tomorrow there is supposed to be another wave of snow and blizzards across the country, and Gujo will likely get some of it, so . With that said, this year there has been more snow in a lot of places than has been typical in recent years. Conversely, last year there was little snow the entire season, even in Tohoku and Hokkaido.

Thanks for the info. Thankfully, I am just trying to dodge driving in snow. Guji Hachiman seems more like a walkable city than drivable which is a good thing
