Hi. I am planning my second cycling trip in Japan and as I am going through different articles many times I find reference to a top list called The 100 best roads in Japan. I read that this or that road got voted in to this list but I cannot find the actual list. I guess it should be something annual. Any idea? Thanks.

Thank you Uji. I will peruse that later. Strava heat maps, Google streetview and things on Youtube from people like Driving enthusiast are helpful. My personal choices would include the Tobishima kaido which is less well know than the Shimanami but just as nice. Be sure to stop for a coffee here http://marusekicafe.com/ Also I thoroughly enjoyed riding from Kagoshima down to Nishi-Oyama station via the Chiran Peace museum and then back around lake Ikeda. I'm sure @LikeBike will have some other ideas. Partly this post is to see if they are letting my post again as my recent attempts have never made it to the site

Japanese just love rankings. 100 best onsens, 3 best scenic views, 20 best gardens and always something being the "Best", often to an extend where it really gets loveable ridiculous, like "best onion of japan", "best temple of japan that was build before year 1500 but after 1200", "best dried algae on mishima island" and so on... :-)

Do note that a large number of these roads are hilly roads with fantastic views in rural locations which ARE NOT suitable for bicycles.
HOWEVER, I'm sure that somewhere there is a list of the 50 BEST CYCLING ROADS IN JAPAN or something similar. In general, a large number of the best roads tend to have the name "skyline" or something similar and may be a tollway along a windy road with breathtaking views - to a point where it's almost dangerous to drive as you want to watch the view instead of the road.
I'm sure that someone with better Japanese skills might know of it.
