Tokyo Bay Fishing & Crabbing Regulations? 2021/4/11 22:13
I'm in Yokosuka and go out kayaking in Tokyo Bay sometimes. I know there is no fishing license required, but what about regulations on species or size? I can't find it for this region.

Also are crab traps allowed? I don't see many people in small boats, so it's hard to just copy locals.

If anyone knows of a link to an official source that would be awesome. I go out on the water 20-30 times each summer. I'd like to know laws to follow.

According to the Bureau, there seems to be a lot of laws, rules and manners you should follow when fishing in Tokyo Bay. Unfortunately, their English site seems to be mainly for foreign guest instead of residents. So, here are the details in Japanese.

The part you'd probably be most interested in is under
1.漁業者以外の人(遊漁者)が行える漁具漁法は、次のものに限られています。
(東京都漁業調整規則第44条)
According to what it says, you're not allowed to set traps. You can click each link to jump to a page where you can see pictures of the tools that are allowed. It also says that to enjoy "trolling", you need a permission.

Apart from Google Translate, Deepl provides a relatively decent automatic translation (but far from perfect).

I suppose you can also try contacting one of the organizations at the bottom of their English page.

For example, Go Tokyo has an email address shown toward the bottom of their page.

I hope it helps you have fun legally.
