I have a unopened bottle of Habushu-sake (with the snake in it). It is 17 years old. Is it still good or safe to drink?

It typically is. Would you like to upload photos of the label to make sure?
You can upload photos on a photo uploading site and post the link here so that people can see.

The Habu-sake is not 17 years old, only 3 years old.
The last picture printed date 年月日(YEAR MONTH DAY) 30.10.04, which i Heisei year 30, October 4th. Heisei year 30 is 2018.

I'm not sure how to read the date. As the manufacturer's name is clearly legible, I just launched an inquiry with them. See what they say. I can see that (if the bottle has not been opened at all) there has been quite a bit of amount that has evaporated over time, as this is "as bottled": https://www.nantosyuzo.com/products/liqueur/habuiri27.html

100% this was produced/bottled in 2018. Since we haven't reached 2030 yet, 製造年月日 30.10.04 couldn't be interpreted in any other way other than "produced/bottled on the 4th of October, Heisei 30". It's fine to drink.

Response:
Concerning the date of manufacture of “Habu-shu” bought by an overseas friend of yours, It was manufactured on October 4th of Heisei year 30. (= 2018) Also there is no expiry date on “awamori,” (= the type of liquor) so you can well drink it. We hope you enjoy our “Habu-shu.”

It's year, month, day in Japan. They use the emperor years, so it's Heisei 30.
