Married in Japan and switch to spouse visa 2021/5/31 19:50
Hi all,

Quick question; I tried googling around but I couldn't find any query similar to the one I'm about to post. My apologies if this is a duplicate.

If I get married in Japan and apply for a spouse-visa; do I also have to have the Japanese marriage registered in my own country of origin? I've scoured the web and some sites state that this is required while others say it's not. We're considering consulting with a lawyer but before that we'd love to get some feedback from couples who already went through this process.

Thanks!

Check the website of the embassy/consulate of your country in Japan - they usually have some information about it (Ifve seen the ones for UK and US). Or you could also call them as well.

Check with your country embassy official in Japan.
Different country have different rule/law regarding to international marriage.
