Japanese License Plate Screw Size? 2021/7/13 11:33
I purchased a 2021 Toyota Corolla SE Hatchback that was assembled in Aichi, Japan.

The car was sold in the U.S.

The rear bumper cover has two square openings in its with rounded corners. A screw hole is located just above these opening and has a a metal reinforcement clip. These are for mounting Japanese style license plates.

Toyota did not include mounting holes for U.S. plates. A Japanese license plate bracket would fit the car but not a U.S. plate. A custom bracket will need to be made to hold the U.S. license plate.

What are the specifications for machine screws to fit into these hole.?

Diameter?
Length?
Pitch of Thread?

Drill holes in the plates would be easier.

Thanks for the replies.

I previously tried 6mm from posts I saw on another auto forum and they were too small.

I also tried 8mm and they were too small.

There are no internal threads in the U-shaped clip. The front hole is slightly larger so any screw would need thread through the rear hole.

The local branch of a large chain of home remodeling stores does not carry a 9mm online, but they carry 10mm. Will have to give those a try.
