How long does it take for cicadas to die?

How long does it take for Japanese cicadas to die? This is my first summer in Japan and I absolutely hate it. For now, I need to get through summer without interaction from these creatures. This week was the first week seeing and hearing these pests! When do they die, already???

Once they are grown (meaning they crawl out of the ground and start singing), some live up to 2 weeks, others (different species) live up to one month. They�fll continue throughout August in most parts of Japan.
Sorry to hear it bothers you - is it the sound or you just dislike bugs in general?

I just hate bugs in general. Anything that crawls or flies, and bigger than my thumb is a no-go.

Oh. That is just too bad... try not to look at them. Summer, in particular, Japan is full of insects.

I have a few local friends who are not fond of insects in general, but they "manage," so I'm sure you can too.

Maybe try to learn some interesting facts about them. Maybe you can then learn to tolerate them better. But yes, they are an integral part of Japanese summers.
