Japan Airlines ticket: validity

Hello everyone.

It might be a stupid question but I am not a native English speaker. Upon booking with JAL, I was asked to enter the passport validity date.

Is this the expiration date ? Or is it the issuance date ?

I am a bit confused. I put the date when my passport expires as the validity date but I want to double check. Please help. Thanks :)

Yes, this must be the expiry date.

They're asking how long it's valid until. A frequent issue for international travelers is having enough margin in case something happens and you need to lengthen your stay - you can't extend a tourist visa if your passport is expired.

You passport is valid to the expiry date.

So validity and expiry are the same date.
