Flight booking to Japan

Hi, has anyone here obtained a child/spouse of a Japanese citizen visa to visit in 2022 and can you tell me if I need to have booked a flight before applying for the visa, or is it advised to wait until you've got the visa approved?

Just put a generalised date you plan on travelling. No good booking a flight if you are unsure if a visa can be approved.

It depends on the Embassy. But, most of Embassies require to have a booked flight to Japan. It is one of the requirements before applying for the visa.

I came with a short-term family visit visa in March to Tokyo. Before applying for it I called my embassy (Berlin) & asked them if I need to book a flight in advance.
But they told me it's enough to show them which flight I WOULD take, but I don't need to book it before receiving the visa.
So, it's not necessary for your visa application. :)
