If you live overseas, then it can be hard to get a job in Japan. In order to come to work in Japan, you have to find a company which will sponsor you visa. In order to get a job as a teacher, I believe you should have at least completed bachelors degree. Thereafter, there is additional exams that clarifies that you can teach English and thereafter you can be eligibility to apply for the jobs like English teacher. Its not easy.

Ifm not sure exactly what curriculum/course youfve finished when you say g12th,h and what your mother tongue is, but to be an English language teacher at a language school/English conversation schools in Japan, you need to be eligible for visa sponsorship. For that, you need to be either a native speaker of the English language, or, if you are not, have completed (I believe) 12 years of education ginh English (not studying English as a subject, but learning different subjects ginh English), and have obtained at least a bachelorfs degree. (Or if you have taught English to non-native speakers of English in your country for 3 years already, that qualifies you as well.)

So if your classes have been taught ginh English from elementary school, fine, or starting with junior high/middle school, then by the time you obtain a bachelorfs degree (either 3 or 4 years usually) youfd have been educated ginh English for 12 years.

Some English conversation school (private companies) hire directly from outside Japan, and others only take applicants who are already living in Japan (with some long-term visa already). I am not exactly sure how those companies are hiring since the pandemic began. Best wishes.

If you are not from a native English speaking country. They will test your language skills.

Your original openning question has horrible usage of the English language. Probalbly 7yo-8yo level. If this is the extent of your language skill level, then I would say forget it. If it was just very lazy typing, the forget what I said.

To the original poster:
When you say g12th,h do you mean g12th grade,h meaning you finished senior high school (at around age 18)? If that is the case, you will need to pursue higher education (college/university) and obtain a bachelorfs degree. Or when you say gEnglish honors,h was it a college (though distance learning)?

To gh,h
English is one of the gofficial languagesh of India. That is why I say I am not sure what the OPfs gnative tongueh gmother tongueh is, meaning what they grew up with. If they say they grew up fully with English (and possibly another language), then that suffices, then it is up to the potential employer, probably upon interviewing, to assess if their language proficiency is sufficient for teaching non-native speakers.

Before anyone gives too much extra time on this thread - I think we should confirm the following.

(1) You have completed 12 years of school (probably in English)

(2) You have completed "English Honours" via distance learning. Is this a university degree? Or was this in relation to your High School?

(3) Are you 21 years of age or older?

There are two main jobs for English teachers in Japan.

One is as an English tutor for kids or Adults who are Japanese. This is often taught by university graduates from mainly Western English speaking countries.

Another is to teach English or teach "in English" as a subject teacher. This normally occurs in International Schools and most of the time requires a teaching degree and years of experience (I am an international teacher with teaching experience in Japan).

I don't have enough knowledge to make valid comments on being an English tutor - but I can say that you do not have enough experience (unless you have not told us!) to be a content teacher "in english" in Japan.

The age question might be relevant when it comes to signing contracts in Japan. Others will know more than I.

The adult age in Japan is 18. It has never been 21.

Re: Can I become english teacher in japan india 2022/9/12 21:49
Let me expand on what AK said about English being an "official language" of India. English is one of over 20 languages of India. 6 to 10 percent of the population speaks *some* English. English is the mother tongue of less than 1 percent. That's from a quick Google search, so maybe it's wrong.

So it's unlikely that the OP is a native speaker of English.

Although I don't think the OP is qualified (yet) to teach English, I have met several English teachers in Japan who are not from English speaking countries.
