Fuji Five Lakes accommodation recs?

Looking to stay for 3 nights in the Fuji Five Lakes region in April and we will have rental car. Where is it recommended to stay? Would love to hear feedback on others' prior stays.
I'd say we are looking in the mid range budget wise.

Maybe 5 years ago we stayed a few nights at Wakakusa no Yado something at Lake Kawaguchiko. Rooms are very nice and the onsen (they have a private one too from memory) looks straight out at Mt Fuji which is fantastic. Unfortunately the outdoor bath had a tiny tap on it which would take forever to fill so we didnt bother. The food wasnt fantastic given the price, a lot of the accommodation was expensive there at the time.

The area is nice but not massively interesting, there is a nearby doll museum with an attached cafe that sells the best hot dogs ever, really the $3 hot dogs were the high point of the trip for me, and the Fuji views from the nearby park which were spectacular.
