JR pass reservation

When I last went with JR pass, I had to book seats for travel at tye stations.
Is that still the case, or can they now be booked online?

According to the brochure that is provided with the exchange process (the brochure I have just referenced is dated Sep 2022) the main booking is done either at a reserved seat ticket machine or a ticket office.
