What places to visit for one week 2022/11/6 11:47
Hi, I would like to ask for your suggestions on the places to visit for our family trip (3rd). From Tokyo, we will go to Fujikawaguchiko (2 nights). Thereafter, we have about one week time to spare before going to the Kyoto area. We have been Takayama Kurobe Alpine route, Shirakawa, Nagatsugawa, Matsumoto, Nagoya, etc. We are interested in places related to culture/history and nature but not keen on outdoor sports. Can you please be so kind to propose places that we can visit for one week? This will be for June 2023. Thank you very much.

Hi, I expect that you are OK with the heat in June, but regardless at that time of year I would suggest Karuizawa, then Matsumoto to Kamikochi, then Takayama. I havent been to Shirakawa-go in summer, but I expect it would be awesome.

Karuizawa and Kamikochi stay pretty cool, Matsumoto gets pretty warm as does Takayama.

I would highly recommend visiting the Sea of Japan coastline in the Hokuriku Region.

The Noto Peninsula has wonderful shrines, temples and coastlines.

Kanazawa is very rich in culture and history and offers similar vibes to Kyoto (but without the same crowd intensity as Kyoto).

Around Fukui, you can find more temples, wonderful coastline and historical sights. There's also a dinosaur museum (there's even animatronic dinosaurs outside JR Fukui Station).

And then from Fukui it's a straight 80 minute train journey to Kyoto by limited express train.

If heat is no problem, then I would suggest Shiga (lake Biwa) area and then inner Nara prefecture

If heat is not okay, then I would spend a week in Hokkaido.

June is the rainy season and hydrangea season, so Kamakura and Hakone (Kanagawa), Yatadera and Hasedera (Nara) are recommended.

However, many tourists visit.
June is the rainy season, but the hydrangeas that get wet in the rain are beautiful.
According to the information posted on the Yatadera website, the following is the result of experts ranking the hydrangea spots that look good in photos in 2019.
qWest Japanr
1 Kobe Municipal Arboretum (Kobe City)
2 Yata Temple (Yamatokoriyama City, Nara Prefecture)
3 Hasedera Temple (Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture)
4 Huis Ten Bosch (Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture)
5 Maizuru Natural and Cultural Gardens (Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture)
qEast Japanr
1 Hakone Tozan Train (Hakone City, Kanagawa Prefecture)
2 Michinoku Hydrangea Garden (Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture)
3 Shimoda Park (Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture)
On a different note, Hokkaido is not affected by the rainy season, so if you want to go to a sunny place, Hokkaido is also recommended.
