Booking taxi for new year's eve 2022/12/12 08:12
Could anyone advise on how to book taxi in advance im Tokyo please?

I downloaded Go and Didi, Go i can't sign up without a local phone number, Didi only allows me to book up to 3 days in advance.

We want to visit Meiji Jingu over New Year's midnight, but hotel is not close to any of them.

What would be the best way to book for taxi then, I assume booking in advance is recommended?
And I'm not sure if booking 3 days in advance is early enough?

Also how long will it usually take to pay visit at Meiji Jingu at midnight, if I pre book for taxi to collect me then is 2h enough? Should I go from 11pm-1am?

Thanks a lot in advance

which hotel are you staying at?
On New Year's Eve, JR trains run late at night. Meiji Shrine is close to Harajuku Station on the JR Yamanote Line.

So you may not need to use a taxi.
Tokyo Metro seems to be on a regular weekend and holiday schedule.(Meiji Jingumae Station on the Chiyoda Line and Fukutoshin Line)

Hi Haro1210

Thanks but I saw this article saying late night trains were cancelled, I was a bit confused.

However I feel your information is more reliable?
Thanks

As I already wrote, the Tokyo Metro does not operate late at night because it is a timetable for Saturdays and Sundays.
However, JR East trains will operate, albeit at intervals.
Please check the approximate operating time by translating the link with translation software.
More detailed information (timetable) will be announced near the end of the year (around the 20th?).

@Zhao, the PP was mentioning JR Yamanote line which isnft a gTokyo metroh line. Itfs confusing but there are many different rail companies sending their trains through Tokyo some even connecting different companies in the same train ride. gTokyo Metroh is only one of them.

Regarding time needed at Meiji Jingu , I heard that the lines are very long. I have never been so I donft know if you can just walk around and see the atmosphere. But if you join the line itfs potentially going to be several hours if wait.

You seem to be staying in a hotel so I would ask them to reserve a taxi for you.

Besides Go and Didi, I also found a taxi app called S.RIDE.
https://www.sride.jp/en/
You can read more about the app on our blog here. (Please read with translation software)

According to last year's blog information, it will take 2-3 hours.
It seems that the most crowded time zone is from 0:00 (24:00) to 2:30.

Before the pandemic, it used to take forever (at least a couple of hours) queueing to pay worship at major shrines and temples.

Both trains and taxis would be available throughout the night on New Year's Eve, because everyone would be going somewhere. Don't bother to book unless you need special taxis, such as those suitable for big wheelchairs.

Also note that you are always free to visit smaller local shrines/temples instead, where the atmosphere would be cozy with way less people.
