Hakone Free Pass for one way?

Hi, I'm still a bit confused by the train passes. We are going to Hakone from Tokyo for one night, where we will do all of the "circuit" activities possible: boat, train, gondola, etc. We are leaving Hakone for Kyoto instead of returning to Tokyo. Is the HFP a good idea?

Doing the loop does save a little money, but get the version valid from Odawara rather than one of the other pickup points as you will not be returning to Tokyo.

If you are not returning back to Tokyo the Hakone Free Area pass is a better value, even if you plan to ride the regular orRomance Train from Shinjuku to Odawara by Odakyu private railways.

A regular Odakyu train ticket is 900 yen.
A Romance Train ticket is 1900 yen.
The two day Free Area Pass pass is 5000 yen.
That is a total of 6900 yen.

The regular 2 day pass is 6100 yen , plus a 1200 yen surcharge for each direction for riding the Romance Train. In your case, one direction would be 7300 yen. Just buying a regular one way Odakyu train ticket, and a Free Area Pass is 200 yen less than the combined ticket.

You might not have your hotel in Shinjuku, so just figure out how to get to Odawara Station from whatever station you are closest to. If you have an active pass, like a 7-day JR pass or JR Tokyo Wide Pass, use it to get to Odawara station.
