When travelling from Matsumoto to Nagano by train, will I be able to use my ICOCA card to pay for the journey ?

What about travelling from Kanazawa to Kyoto by train ?

I read somewhere that when travelling across 'regions' covered by IC card, it cannot be used, but within a region, it is ok. Quite confused by what this means ? Can help to explain ?

No, IC cards are not accepted between Matsumoto and Nagano.

What about travelling from Kanazawa to Kyoto by train ?

Yes, you can use Icoca to pay for the base fare, but you need to separately buy a ticket for the limited express supplement (unless you travel by local trains).
