Icoca card for use in Nagano

When travelling from Matsumoto to Nagano by train, will I be able to use my ICOCA card to pay for the journey ?
What about travelling from Kanazawa to Kyoto by train ?
I read somewhere that when travelling across 'regions' covered by IC card, it cannot be used, but within a region, it is ok. Quite confused by what this means ? Can help to explain ?
Thanks.

When travelling from Matsumoto to Nagano by train, will I be able to use my ICOCA card to pay for the journey ?No, IC cards are not accepted between Matsumoto and Nagano. What about travelling from Kanazawa to Kyoto by train ?Yes, you can use Icoca to pay for the base fare, but you need to separately buy a ticket for the limited express supplement (unless you travel by local trains). I read somewhere that when travelling across 'regions' covered by IC card, it cannot be used, but within a region, it is ok. Quite confused by what this means ? Can help to explain ?You get it right. You can see these "regions" outlined on the map on the following page: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2359_003.html
