What to do with luggage on new golden route

This website publishes a fantastic 7 day itinerary for exploring Japanfs enew golden routef but unfortunately leaves out some details as to what to do with your luggage when traveling from place to place. There seems to be a lot of backtracking and day excursions on the way from one location to the next, and Ifm not sure what to do with luggage in the interim.
