Hakone pass: from Shinjuku or Odawara

Hello, I will be traveling from Shinjuku to Hakone using the Romance car train and I will be staying in Hakone for one night and then traveling to Kyoto (departing from Odawara station). I am not sure which Hakone 2-day online pass to purchase as I will not be traveling back to Shinjuku; the one from Shinjuku or Odawar station? Thank you

Romance Car (including seat fee) from Shinjuku to Odawara - 1900 yen.
Hakone Free Pass purchased at Odawara - 5000 yen

Hakone Pass (6100 yen) plus Romance car surcharge (+1200 yen) purchased at Shinjuku - 7300 yen.

If you do not plan to return to Shinjuku, simply wait until you get to Odawara.

I would like to do a similar route to you as I am staying in Hakone area then plan to go to Kyoto. I will not have a JR pass and want a single ticket for shinkansen to Kyoto, either from Odawara or from Tokyo. Is the experience the same if I do the Odawara route (ie the quality of the train and the speed), and where can I find timetables as I think there are fewer trains?
