Shimabara peninsula itinterary and hikes

We'd like to explore the highlights of nature, food and culture on the Shimabara Peninsula in October. Given we'll have a car, wed welcome suggestions about quirky/earthy sights and sub-3hr hikes.
We'd appreciate any advice or tips on our rough itinerary is as follows:
Day 1: Arrive Shimarara (ex Yaushima) around 1500. Stay Railway Hotel, walk around local sights and streets.
Day 2. Collect hire car, and drive to Unzen via (???) Stay at Minshuku and soak in onsen
Day 3, Hike around mountain and visit Hells.. Stay at Unzen Minshuku and soak in Onsen
Day 4. ??? in morning. Return car to Shimabara in early afternoon, ferry to Kumamoto

You can buy shimabara railway and bus day
Pass :known world heritage excursion pass
Valid shimatetsu bus,shimatetsu ferry ,sanko bus, 2 Day =5500 yen
3 Day =6800 yen
