Yakushima Dates Nov. 2023 - Advice on Choices 2023/6/1 23:45
Hello - I am finalizing a November trip to Japan this year, and have two 4-day segments I can slot my desired trip to Yakushima Island in, but I am having trouble deciding.

I can make it work on November 7-10 (Tues-Fri) or November 21-24 (Tues-Fri).

I have two main considerations that are making we waffle. First, I am hoping to actually avoid the fall foliage if possible. I know it is not as pronounced as in other regions, but given that I'll be spending most of the rest of November in famous koyo spots, I was hoping to be able to get as much of Yakushima's signature pure, vibrant greenery as I can.

I was also wondering if I was risking hitting snow in the later November dates (couldn't find any firm statement about when snowfall begins on the island).

Any other considerations I overlooked are welcome too! Thanks!

We visited Yakushima 10 years ago in late October, the weather was near perfect, with only light rain during the four days we were there, not as claimed " 35 days of rain a monthh.
I would advise going early, late November could be too cold, and extra hiking gear could be needed then.

Unless you are climbing mountains - you will be fine. I visited in January 2020 and found it to be plenty green. I actually hardly remember seeing any bare trees. The two posts below shows you what I mean by that....

As such - I think the question will be more about sunlight strength. The earlier you travel - the more "pop" there might be in the sunlight strength to see the current green of the trees
