Will my old Suica work?

I bought my card as the old "N'ex-Suica" card and ticket combo back in 2012. I go to Japan every couple years and it has always worked. Last time I used it was in 2019. Does the chip inside it die eventually and the only way to find out is when I arrive in Tokyo in October and try to load money on it?

I read somewhere that it is good for 20 years since the last use. Even if it expires you can get refund for remaining balance.

You can resume using that Suica card later in 2023.
The e-money stored on a Suica card should be good for 10 years after the card was used last.
Still, I recommend you visit a JR-East counter and have that Suica card checked. A gate machine may stop you because the latest record of your card is very old.
Have a nice trip!

Agreed, we have used Suica's purchased in 2013 for years, and in March this year-first use since December 2018- they were fine.
Enjoy your trip!
