Bus from Takayama to Matsumoto 2023/8/3 17:06
Hi,

According to this link: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6053.html?aFROM=5900_6050

I am going from Matsumoto to Takayama in 2 weeks time (19 Aug to be exact). I can book a round trip bus from Matsumoto to Takayama. However, when I tried to book from https://willerexpress.com/en/bus_search/nagano/matsumoto/gifu/takayama...

it tells me that the ticket is non-reserved and seats are not guaranteed. my concern is that I might not have a bus back from Takayama to Matsumoto should the seats run out. Is there anyway to get reserved bus seats from Matsumoto to Takayama?

Thank you.

No. It is a non-reserved bus - buy tickets on the day. Line up early if worried about getting a seat.
For mid-August I would think it quite unlikely the bus would be full, and they can put on extra buses at times of high demand. I have had a one occasion where the bus was nearly full out of many many trips, but most other times it is mostly empty.

Sharing our experience
Last sunday we did the way from Takyama to Matsumoto by bus .
We could not reserve the tickets in advance . We took the 7.50 bus( if i remember the exact time) we bought untimed tickets the friday before but the tickets are not timed . We arrived early to line up.
The bus was not full when getting out from Takayama but people got on the bus in other statiions like Hirayu onsen and some other stations on the way and towards Matsumoto it was almost full.
