Repatriation and nenkin/pension 2023/10/15 15:34
I'm moving back to New Zealand after 15 years in Japan.

I've been paying into national nenkin/pension from day 1.

What I think I know:

After having paid into the pension for over 10 years, I am not eligible to receive a lump sum withdrawl payment due to the fact I am now eligible to receive the pension in the future.

Can anyone offer any other info, or correct me, or give me any advice relating to moving back to New Zealand and my pension payments.

(Other repatriation to New Zealand advice welcome too.)

As far as I know, youfve got it right - since you are (after 10 years of paying into the pension) eligible to receive the Japanese pension when you reach 65 years old, you cannot apply for the lump sum payment (even if you apply, it will be rejected).
You will need to apply (in later years) to receive the payment, which can be done from outside Japan. You might want to check the procedure at the pension office.
