Kyoto on January 2nd and 3rd? 2023/12/21 08:59
Hi, I'm traveling to Kyoto from 2nd of Jan to 6th. I learned that the news years holiday continues till the 3rd, and I am unable to get a clear idea on what is open. What would be best for me to do those days? Don't want them to go wasted. Thank you!

Check the website of the locations you wanna visit. The forum cannot help much since you haven't mentioned anything.

Temples and shrines will be open and busy (but can be fun). Other places check out the specific place you want to go. Itfs different for all sites. On JG there is a very short summary of 2-3 main places in Kyoto and their opening. So better for you to look at the specific place you want to go.
Ifll also be (again) in Kyoto for this year end.
My personal suggestion is Fushimi Inari Taisha. It will be incredibly crowded but on those days itfs part of the fun.
Here some pics from last year :
