Hi, I and my two children (17 & 14) are planning to visit Japan last week of May 2024. Here is our itinerary. Can you please provide me with suggestions. I preferred to use public transportation. I plan to buy JR Kansai Hokuriku Pass (7 days/19,000 yen) and Alpine Takayama Matsumoto Tourist Pass (5 days/23,800 yen)
Day 1: Arrive at KIX - > Osaka (using airport bus transit, I think it is 1,300 yen?) Day 2: Osaka sightseeing Day 3: Day trip to Okayama & Hurashiki [Activate JR Kansai-Hokuriku Pass - day 1] Day 4: Day trip to Himeji castle (morning) & Kobe (afternoon) [JR Kansai-Hokuriku Pass - day 2] Day 5: To Kyoto [JR Kansai-Hokuriku Pass - day 3] Day 6: Day trip to Amankhashidate [JR Kansai-Hokuriku Pass - day 4] Day 7: Kyoto sightseeing [JR Kansai-Hokuriku Pass - day 5] Day 8: Day trip to Nara [JR Kansai-Hokuriku Pass - day 6] Day 9: To Kanazawa [JR Kansai-Hokuriku Pass - day 7] Day 10: Kanazawa sightseeing Day 11: To Shirakawago [Nohi bus], spend a night in one of the farmhouses? Day 12: To Takayama [Nohi bus], spend a night here. Day 13: To Toyama [Alpine Takayama Matsumoto Tourist Pass - day 1], spend a night here. Day 14: Alpine Route to Matsumoto [Alpine Takayama Matsumoto Tourist Pass - day 2] Day 15: To Magome or Tsumago ? [Alpine Takayama Matsumoto Tourist Pass - day 3] Day 16: Walking and hiking in Kiso Valley Day 17: To Nagoya [Alpine Takayama Matsumoto Tourist Pass - day 5] Day 18: Leaving from Nagoya airport
What do you think about our plan? Should I add or remove anything? Do these two passes cover everything? Should I buy other passes instead? Should I spend time sightseeing in Matsumoto? Also, if I booked a room in one of farmhouses in Shirakawago, how difficult is it to get a bus from Kanazawa? When can I buy & reserve the Nohi bus tickets? At the airport, Osaka station, Kyoto Station or Kanazawa? Also, from Shirakawago to Takayama?
Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

I think this WAY too busy. Drop a few locations. Magome would come to mind. But I think I would drop more.
Shirakawa only takes 1-2 h but obviously if you can get a farmhouse stay that would be special.
Matsumoto if you are there definitely go sightseeing there. It has a magnificent castle.
