Things to see in Kyoto Oct 26-31 2024/8/29 17:32
Good afternoon!

I have been to Kyoto quite a few times but always either peak Sakura or Momiji. This time it’ll be between Oct 26th till 31st. Any recommendations for places worthwhile to visit during this period? I will definitely return to Higashiyama area like Ninen&Sannenzaka, Yasaka Pagoda, Kodaiji (I believe their Light-up event already on by then), Nishiki Market, Hakuryu-en & Kibune, Arashiyama, Tetsugaku-no-michi…
Where else would you recommend that is still amazing to visit despite the absence of autumn leaf? Or any which changes autumn color earlier (Can always hope 😅)?

Saihoji and Sanjusangen-do
a couple tips for planning a Kyoto itinerary especially since you have already been there before:
Use google maps to create a map of places you want to go ... especially since you plan on returning to certain areas you might notice a temple in that area that you have never been to for example in Higashiyama have you been to Eikando and Nanzenji? Also if you are into art The national museum of modern art Kyoto is underrated so I recommend that especially if you get a rainy day.
Second tip:
if you have Instagram ... use the explore function (little magnifying glass icon at the bottom or possibly on the left depending on if it is mobile or desktop version) search for 'Kyoto' and you will get flooded with reels on interesting things to do in the city from places to visit to food to try ... you can also use this for other cities or be more specific in your search for example 'Arashiyama' or if you are interested in a specific spot 'Saihoji' for example it will give you some great images to decide whether or not you want to visit. You can also do the same on youtube.

You might also consider some things that are farther afield such as Nara, Uji, Kuramadera, and to a lesser extent the Imperial Villas.

JG doesn’t like me today. My reply already crashed for the third time.

So again. I am not a connoisseur of Kyoto but if day trips are on I can recommend
Miho museum
Hikone
Omi Hachiman
Uji
Asuka
Imaicho
Muro

Eikando and Nanzenji are beautiful. I always visit the Aqueduct on each of my trips. So surreal…

Be aware that Saihoji requires advanced registration ... it can now be done online ... I would do it ASAP as I think the time slots for your visit are already open. Also in Arashiyama:
Giōji - similar to Saihoji ... in that it features a moss garden
Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple
Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple
Daikaku-ji

Sanjusangendo pairs well with a Fushimi Inari/ Tofukuji day ... there are a bunch of temples around Tofukuji that might be of interest. Also just fyi Sanjusangendo is a gem, but not a place that will eat up a lot of time in your itinerary I think 15- 30 minutes should be appropriate ... perhaps longer if you want to go at a slower pace/ contemplate.
