More restaurants - Kyoto's Kichi Kichi? 2024/9/30 16:25
I just discovered Kichi Kichi Omurice restaurant in Kyoto as a most entertaining and popular place to dine if you can succeed in their Same-Day-Reservation-System.

That is: Only online bookings are possible:
For lunch are only available from 09:00 to 09:30 on the day you wish to go there.
For dinner only from 13:00 to 13:30 on the day you wish to go there.

I will try to get a reservation when I am in Kyoto this October.

My question to the forum is

Can someone recommend other restaurants with Same-Day-Reservation-Systems in places such as Takayama, Kanazawa, Kobe, Tokyo or Osaka.

Thanks for any replies.

Cheers

Hmm… I don’t understand the question. In most restaurants you can reserve on the same day. Depending on availability.
Or are you asking for restaurants that don’t accept reservation on the day before?

There is also a reservation system like this.

I think you can make a reservation from Tabelog, but there are too many stores and it seems difficult to choose.

Trip Advisor may be helpful to know which stores are popular.
Or Reviews on Google Maps.

Hi LikeBike, sorry for my vague question.

The type of restaurant I am looking for is one that like Kichi Kichi, being so very popular, has a unique reservation system to make it easy to book a table and to lessen Reservation Staff workload.

They only take ONLINE bookings during 2 x 30 min periods each day for bookings on that day. No advance bookings of 1 or more days is possible. It appears that Walk-Ins never get a table.

Thanks haro1210 for your links. The Trip Advisor one is great, leading me to deal directly with restaurants of interest.

Cheers

I would be wary of this restaurant … not saying it isn’t good (I have never been there before), but it is massively overhyped on social media. I do highly recommend Tonkatsu Hasegawa in Tokyo though … just ate there a couple days ago and it was really good (I previously mentioned it to you in another thread). I also ate at Coil in Kanazawa which I recommended to you in your cooking class thread. It was good and a fun experience, but it didn’t blow my socks off. I had wanted to eat at Kourin Sushi, but they were fully booked before the restaurant opened.

Thanks PatrickSF, we are in Tokyo now. Tonkatsu Hasegawa Is on our list now. Ta fot your tip. We are here till the 12th.

We had our first Okonomiyaki yesterday in Shibuya - we sat at a table with a hot plate and the waiter did all the preparations for a fun and delicious experience. Can you recommend a similar Okonomiyaki restaurant in Tokyo!?

Thanks again. We will follow your tip for Kanazawa too.

Cheers

Good okonomiyaki in Tokyo? That kind of threw me off since okonomiyaki is more well known in the Kansai area as well as Hiroshima. Honestly, you can eat mostly anywhere in Japan and the restaurant will be quite good. I think there have only been a couple times after hundreds of times eating out that I found a place that wasn't very good.

Hi PatrickSF, we just finished our 16 selections of foods at COIL. Two boxes arrived at our table. What are they - then watching other diners, we got what-to-do happening. Beer was very cold. Always a plus for an Aussie. Making our own maki sushi was a lot of fun. Ta for your recommendation.
More good news - we were able to reserve a table for 2 days in advance at KOURIN Sushi.
Thanks again.

Awesome glad you enjoyed the recommendations it makes me really happy to hear that. If you are back in Tokyo before the end of your trip I highly recommend Savoy Azabujuban ... I arrived at the restaurant 15 - 30 minutes before they opened at 11:30 and managed to be among the first group seated. The pizza is really good ... had the marinara and Pizza Y (tuna pizza with mayo corn base) it was remarkably good. In Kyoto I had incredibly delicious chestnut soup at Benoit. It is a French restaurant, but given that it is chestnut season in Japan this was one of the highlights food wise. The desserts there were not to my liking though ... I also recommend trying to go during lunch time ... I went there for dinner and since it was dark could not really see the view of Kiyomizudera. Be on the look out for any kind of chestnut treats even at 7 eleven. I had a chestnut cream puff near Ginkakuji that was so good.
