Kyoto to Ohara 2024/10/19 05:28
Has anyone done a day trip from Kyoto to Ohara with a guide? I would like to do a day trip to Ohara with a guide in their car (guide can be from Kyoto or Ohara). This would be in mid November. If you know of a guide or have used someones services do please let me know. Thank you

There are several volunteer guide groups in Kyoto, so why don't you ask them?

I am quite questionable that there are volunteer (free) guides to use their own car. Personally I did free guide with my car here in Kagoshima three times, but in that case we are friends via Japanguide. If they are some kind of organization, I don't think they do free car ride and guide.

You may better consider English guided taxi such as below.

I don't know him in person though.

You can have a perfectly wonderful trip to Ohara without getting there by car. Buses leave from Kyoto Station or the Kokusaikaikan Subway Station area, the latter being less time spent on a bus. You might be able to find a ggoodwill guideh who will accompany you, although mid-November will be a busy time and they might all be committed already. Of course you would pay their bus fare and maybe lunch or something.

I think Ohara is actually one of the easier places to go without needing a guide. The bus drops you off very close to Sanzenin, and there are other good sites in easy walking distance (more than you would likely want to do in one day). Itfs actually easier than trying to get to some of the magnet sites in central Kyoto. But if you want someone who can explain things to you in English or something I guess a guide might be helpful.
