What do most Japanese think about wearing fur

I have inherited a warm fur coat & have worn it a few times in Europe. & rarely in the USA. Although, the fur coat has kept me warm, it is more important to me to be mindful & considerate to local customs & values. We will be traveling to Japan in the winter months - would a fur coat be acceptable in most cities?

I don't think it would cause big problems in terms of being "mindful & considerate to local customs & values", but most parts of Japan never had a real history of wearing big fur.
For this reason, you'll rarely see people of any age wearing fur coats. I've had a fake fur coat for decades, but I've ended up never wearing it just because (A) I can't imagine myself matching the scenery and (B) I have other coats that are lighter and warmer.
I know older people who would wear short fur coats to nice department stores in the 1980s, and they said that jewelers would come up to them and be nicer to them as opposed to when they were wearing non-fur. I don't know how it is today.
Anyway, you might not see people in fur, and many parts of Japan may be too warm for fur, but only a few people would probably mind.

good morning it depends on what kind of animal fur according to Washington Convention, fur (and rugs) 毛皮・敷物 of animals such as Tiger, leopard, bear etc トラ、ヒョウ、クマ等 cannot be brought into japan it would be prudent to have a certificate to list the fur used in case if you are being questioned at the customs just on the safe side (regardless of the animal sacrificed) i would personally declare it in advance to avoid any fines (there are official procedures to apply for exemptions in advance eg 経済産業省の発行した輸入承認証 but this may be a separate topic) please see details at https://www.customs.go.jp/zeikan/pamphlet/tsukan.pdfhave a wonderful trip~
