I plan to visit Kanazawa in mid May, how many days should I stay? Would the weather in May be good?
Thanks.

Ask greatly depends on what you want to see. Ifd say something between 1-3 days is reasonable. More you could do some side trips.

I'd second what @Likebike says and while I think you could see most places in two days I would lean towards three myself as I like slow pace & to go to slightly off the beaten path places as well.

Many thanks to both both for your information. I shall stay 3 days then because I like to take my time.
Any idea about the weather in May?
And, any suggestion for neighbouring cities that are similar to Kanazaw please?
I've already been to Kyoto, Takayama and Shirakawago in my previous visit. I'll be arriving and departing Osaka for this trip of around 2 weeks.
Thanks.

Mostly I stay one night, occassionally two. For a three night stay, I would be struggling to find things to do, even with a few excursions out of the city that I have dones in the past.

May weather is generally very nice, but you have to understand that it can rain during any season in Japan. And it can sometimes be fairly hot in May, although that would usually be later in the month. Prepare for cool days and also for warm days, and also have contingency plans for rain. It probably wonft rain very much, but if all your plans involve being outdoors a lot, be sure to bring a good umbrella and suitable footwear.
Most cities in Japan have only a limited number of places that are as compelling and satisfying as dozens of sites in and around Kyoto. If you only went to the really famous places in Kyoto, consider spending some more time there and digging deeper. Besides many lovely (and uncrowded) places in the central city itself, there are good places on the outskirts (e.g., Takao, Hieizan, Ohara, Yoshiminedera, Uji), or just slightly farther afield, such as in Nara prefecture (excluding the deer park) or Shiga prefecture. You really donft have to be looking all over the place for other cities to visit, if youfre just seeking areas that are generically gsimilar to Kanazawa.h (If you want alpine scenery, spectacular coastlines, etc. then you need to seek those out specifically.)

Between Kyoto and Kanazawa there are a few places I want to go, but havenft been yet: - Fukui dinosaur museum - Daihonzan Eijeiji temple -Echizen coast -Kaga onsen
I also want to go to Obama but mainly because I want to go there by bicycle from Kyoto.
Noto peninsula was a good daytrip from Kanazawa but some places specially Wajima. But there are still great places to visit. Just take information before where is open.
In Kanazawa itself you have - Kenrokuen - castle -Ninja dera - modern art museum - samurai district We also went to a gold sheet shop/factory and a kimono gfactoryh.
May is generally one of the best months to travel in Japan. Not too hot yet and generally nice weather. Although that obviously depends on each day.

Many thanks again to everyone's advice.
I'm a 70-year-young solo traveller who just want to visit places that are easy to commute and navigate, not so crowded, close to transportation with minimal transfers because I don't want to drag my luggage for too far or too long. I totally rely on public transportation because I don't drive. I like to take my time so I don't mind staying an extra day in one place or the other. I like arts & crafts, flea markets, gardens, local cuisine, festivals.
I shall check out the places that you all have suggested. Much appreciated.

Hei! I see you already were in places near to Kanazawa, so why not to choose something in other area. I can recommend from personal good experience Matsumoto or Kurashiki. Lovely smaller towns, I have spent 5 nights in both so had enough time to do also daytrips.
Kanazawa is quite big and crowded, too many tourists really. However I liked geisha-experience there and side trip to Himi.
