Hotel recommendations for 1 night in Nagasaki

Hi everyone.

I'm looking for a hotel recommendation for just one night in Nagasaki, please.

We've visited twice before, and have stayed in the city centre, but I'm interested in people's views on whether it's worth staying in one of the hotels up on the hills surrounding the centre. (I've seen the photo's, but) did the night time views blow people's socks off, or was it an inconvenience to be out of the city centre action?

We'll only be in Nagasaki for 24 hours, coming from nearby Takeo, and heading on to somewhere nearby the next day. We're only really going so that our 15 year old can visit the peace museum and park, (and we might fit in lunch in Chinatown and a quick visit to Dejima).

If anyone has had experience of staying up in the hills, and of the night time views, I'd be very grateful to hear your views please. Thanks a lot.

I have stayed a few times near Glover Gardens and a couple of times near the main Nagasaki train station, most recently at the Hilton (Nov'24) with harbour views - that was nice. Never felt the need for a hillside location as quality of accommodation was usually the main factor and until the recent addition of some newer places, many hotels never made the cut.

I stayed in Nisshokan Bettei Koyotei which is a 23 rooms only ryokan on the hill overlooking Nagasaki station and the city. Nisshokan is a complex of three ryokans and Koyotei is the smallest and most luxurius ryokan among them. Honestly it is somewhat dated, but the rate should be cheeper than the past.

Night view was very nice. I think you can see from all the rooms. You may better choose half board plan with dinner and breakfast, since it will be rather incombenient to go down and up from the city center. You can use shuttle bus service from the JR Nagasaki station.
