Miyajima Great Torii 2025/3/10 00:55
I stumble upon JR West Miyajima Ferry webpage that "A Restoration Project is Underway for the Great Torii".

https://jr-miyajimaferry.co.jp/en/route/

Does it mean that we would not be able to see the Great Torii and it is all cover-up?

Thank You in advance.

My guess is that they forgot to update the page.
The renovation project ended over 2 years ago.

It's back to normal. But be aware if you want to actually go up to it, you need to be there at low tide. You can look up the tidal info online before you go, or at the shrine entrance they have an info board with the tidal times on it. Ideally, it's best to be there both at low and high tides for the best photos.

Hi,
I was in Miyajima in December and the torii gate is uncovered and unaffected. There is some work going on on part of the Itsukushima shine ( a small part of the shrine is covered and has some scaffolding.)
You should be able to walk out to the torii gate maybe 30mins before low tide as at low tide itself you can walk out beyond the torii and get the torii and the shrine from the water's edge ( there may be a few small puddles). If you walk along the small peninsula towards the kiyomori shine and the aquarium , you can get some great shots of stone lanterns and the torii gate from the opposite side ( and a lot quieter than the approach from the ferry port. I agree with the poster above to try and visit it both at low and high tide

For Japanese websites, always go to the Japanese language page. Even companies like JR don't bother to update their English pages and frequently have out of date infrmation. The restoration project has been completed for well over a year.
