Making a Band in Japan

I'm a guitarist and I plan on moving to Japan after I'm done with college. I want to play in bands. My question is once you get a band together, how hard is it for the band to get jobs and then become famous?

I personally don't know, but my brother is a jazz musician. He plays trombone and plays with different bands. He occassionally goes to Japan and seems to always have gigs to play.
He plays at a lot of bars, clubs, and high schools, too.
