Amendments to Shinkansen tickets? 2007/8/10 01:21
Hello,

If you buy reserved tickets on the Shinkansen/Limited express in advance can you change the travel date of the ticket? How about cancelling it and getting a refund?

Thanks

You can refund the base fare ticket (joshaken) for a handling fee of 210 Yen.

As for the express supplement (tokkyuken), it depends on whether it is for a reserved seat or a non-reserved seat.

In case of a non-reserved seat, you can refund the express fee for a handling fee of 210 Yen.

In case of a reserved seat, the handling fee is 320 Yen if you refund the ticket at least 2 days before departure or 30% of the fee (at least 320 Yen) if you refund it on the day before travel or the day of travel.
