How early should I go to Koyasan?

I am coming from Osaka and overnighting at Koyasan.
How early should I leave Osaka?
Is there anything to see in Koyasan in the day time before we head to our overnight stay?
I have to leave super early the next day for Tokyo which is 5-6 hours JR rail trip.
