I want to buy a Japanese bike, just like all the commuters ride in Tokyo and have it shipped to the US. Can it be done??

Sure you can buy a bike, and have it shipped back, as long as you're willing to spend the extra money on either shipping or putting it into the cargo hold of the airplane (depends on airline).
