You must of misread somewhere, you can get a visa if you are a non Japanese citizen, married to a Japanese, divorced, but you HAVE custody of your child (not if you do not).

The only other way is moving to Japan with a full ledge work visa (that is already discussed on how to get one).

The question is does the mother want you in the child's life? If she doesn't and she has custody, then that raises a lot of other problems.
