please give opinion to my 9 days plan 2007/9/10 20:08
I plan to visit japan on early Nov.
Need help / opinion for the plan I made.

At this moment my plan is like:

Day 1 - arrive in Tokyo (evening)
Day 2 - Tokyo city tour
Day 3 - Kawaguchi/ Fujigoko (back to Tokyo)
Day 4 - Nikko (stay 1 night)
Day 5 - Nikko ( morning ) - Matsumoto
Day 6 - Matsumoto – Shinano Omachi - Tetayama Alpine Road – Toyama
(back to Tokyo by shinkansen)
Day 7 - Tokyo city tour
Day 8 - Disney
Day 9 - Depart from Japan

Is there a direct train from Nikko to Matsumoto?
Or is it better: stay in Tokyo (day trip return from Nikko) for easy access to Matsumoto

Is Matsumoto a good choice if i plan to go to Tetayama Alpine road?
will it be easy for me going from Matsumoto to Shinano Omachi?
Please give me opinion which city should I stay a night before to Tetayama

Is JR east pass a good choice for me with this plan?
(yes, I would like to try shinkansen)

You travel during the autumn leaf season. Famous autumn leaf spots like Nikko, Fujigoko and the Alpine Route might be very popular and crowded, especially on weekends. I recommend to visit these places during the week.

Is there a direct train from Nikko to Matsumoto?

No. The fastest way is by shinkansen via Omiya and Nagano.

Is Matsumoto a good choice if i plan to go to Tetayama Alpine road?

Yes. It is a very convenient starting point for the Kurobe-Tateyama Alpine Route.

will it be easy for me going from Matsumoto to Shinano Omachi?

Yes. See here:

Please give me opinion which city should I stay a night before to Tetayama

Matsumoto or Toyama.

Is JR east pass a good choice for me with this plan?

The JR East Pass does not cover the trip between Toyama and Echigo-Yuzawa. For the rest of your itinerary, regular tickets seem to come slightly cheaper than a JR East Pass.

Either would be fine. If you end up not using a JR pass, I recommend to access Nikko with a Nikko Free Pass, which would bring you back to Tokyo. Then, you would continue to Matsumoto from Tokyo.

Also note that the Fujigoko are somewhat along the way between Tokyo and Matsumoto. You could visit them as a stop over on your journey from Tokyo to Matsumoto. Your schedule could then look as follows:

Tokyo - Nikko - Tokyo - Fujigoko - (via Kofu) - Matsumoto - Alpine Route - Toyama - Tokyo

Otsuki? 2007/9/11 20:10
Tokyo - Fujigoko - (via Kofu) - Matsumoto

is this mean:
i will need to get back to Otsuki and get a train head to Kofu city?

please explain to me a bit detail.
( there only little info about otsuki/Kifu in this websdite that i could found)

is half day , say around 5
hours enough to look around Kawaguchiko?

Thx very much Uji
