Hakone daypass?

Hello,
sorry, but I am still a bit confused about which tickets to buy at Hakone. We will travel to Odawara from Tokyo with our JR Pass in the morning and will then have the day and one night to spend at Hakone. Need to leave next morning, no sightseeing will be possible as we are travelling to Takayama. So we need to use means at Hakone on 2 days though. We are staying close to Tougendai station.
Is it best just to buy tickets when we need them or even worth taking a free pass? Any suggestions for 1 day tour - just a roundtrip?

thanks Uji, we will then buy the Hakone pass at Odawara station at our arrival. A weekday pass won't be available, as we are arriving on a Saturday.
