10 days in Japan

Hi,

I will be in Japan for 10 days, will arrive Tokyo on the first week of Oct. I do not want to stay in Tokyo thruout the whole trip and will like to go out of Tokyo. Due to limited days in Japan, I dun wanna spend too much time in travelling either.

Will like to visit at least 2 other cities beside Tokyo. Is Osaka a good choice? How abt sendai in tohoku? How far are they from Tokyo via train? Will a day or two in these places be sufficient?
