Ogimachi to Kyoto Route

There is a bus from Ogimachi to Nagoya that takes 3 hours & then a train to Kyoto. I was wondering if there is a better way. How about a bus to Kanazawa & train to Kyoto from there. I see that is only abuot 2 hour but don't know how long it takes to get to Kanazawa by bus. We will have a Japan Rail Pass.
