Kyoto Bus 62 and 72 provide a connection from central Arashiyama (but not in front of the JR station) to the temple. The bus stop is called Toriimoto, from where the temple can be reached in a 5 minute walk.

It is only about 2 kilometers and can also be reached by bicycle (or even on foot). The taxi fare would be around 700 yen.

Next is from Arashiyama is it convenient to go to Mt Takao.

During certain days of the year, there is a direct bus (Kyoto Bus number 90: Hankyu-Arashiyama Station - Takao) from Toriimoto bus stop to Takao!

For example, in November, the bus operates every 30 minutes between 9:30 and 12:30 in direction of Takao, daily between November 10 and December 2 and only on weekends during the rest of November.

Apart from that, Takao can be reached on a daily basis by JR Bus or Kyoto Bus number 8 from Ninnaji Temple. Ninnaji Temple can be accessed by Keifuku train from Arashiyama. Be warned that these buses get very crowded during the autumn leaf season.
