Hakone Free Pass

I am planning to visit Hakone.Will use JR pass from Tokyo to Odawara,and purchase a 2 day Hakone pass .
Could anyone please advise if I should purchase the pass before departing for Odawara ?
Also any recommendation for one night inexpensive accomodation in the area.

I don't see any reason why you would want to, you can purchase the pass right in Odawara from the Odakyu side of the station.
