Will stores and shopping malls be closed on Friday the 23rd for Labor Day? What about Shrines, Temples, and other tourist sites...closed or open?

Mike,
All shops and tourist attractions will be open.
It is only New Year, Golden Week, and Obon (summer) when some places close.
