There is no bullet train connecting Tokyo and Sapporo. Please see this page : http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e5306.html

And Japan is in winter in January. Make sure you bring a thick jacket with you.

Sapporo is really a nice city but if you want to visit traditional japan it not really the place i would suggest you stay more time in Kyoto or in Osaka there is no bullet train to go to Sapporo and its a long ride from Tokyo it take like one day or one night i suggest taking the plain if you really want to go there, Matane

If you want to take a train there is a night train available. If you have a Rail Pass you will still need to pay the limited express and berthing fees.

go by plane 2007/10/30 18:34
I'm going to Japan in January too and I will go from Tokyo to Sapporo by plane. with an Air Pass (http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2364.html) it's 10.000yen - so it's AFAIR even cheaper then going by train and much much faster.
