I will be moving to Omiya this December but my relatives are in Tsukuba and Yokosuka. I am expecting to shuttle to Tsukuba at least 2x a week and visit Yokosuka at least once a month. I heard that it is expensive to travel in Japan. Any suggestions how I will be able to economize my travels? Thank you very much.

Omiya to Tsukuba is not so expensive. Take JR to Minami-Nagareyama (1 transfer either at Minami-Urawa or Musashi-Urawa) and switch to Tsukuba Express. Total cost is 1340 yen. (1hr 30 min)
Omiya to Yokosuka is 1540 yen. Take JR Shonan-Shinjuku line to Tozuka and switch to JR Yokosuka line. (1hr 50 min)
